Nakama

Chat agents

Why

Nakama runs chats with its own agent loop. Some people already pay for Claude or Codex and want those models to answer in a Nakama profile. They also want Nakama's tools, such as knowledge base search, to stay available.

Value

  • A profile can answer with Claude or Codex, and the chat view stays the same.
  • Nakama tools, such as knowledge base search and web search, still run inside Nakama, under the profile's assignments.
  • You can pick the model and the reasoning effort the agent offers, from the chat composer.

How

Only a platform admin can set a chat agent. The setting is on the profile.

  1. Open Profiles and select the profile.
  2. In Chat agent, choose Claude or Codex. Choose Nakama to go back to the default chat.
  3. Open a chat with that profile. The composer now lists the agent's models and thinking levels. Pick one, and the next reply uses it.

Before you use an agent, sign in to it on the server. Claude needs an Anthropic API key or a Claude sign-in. Codex needs an OpenAI API key or a ChatGPT sign-in. The agent reads its key from the server's environment.

Limits

  • Agent chats do not write chat titles or shorten long conversations. The agent keeps its own history.
  • An agent asks before it edits files or runs commands. Nakama denies those requests. It allows only the profile's Nakama tools.
  • The agent runs on the same server as Nakama, under the same workspace folder as the profile.
